Active Voice

Formerly known as the Television Race Initiative (TRI) Active Voice is a team of strategic communication specialists who use the medium of film for personal and institutional change in communities, workplaces, and campuses nationwide. AGC

Affinity Group Coalition is a forum consisting of representatives from BETA, Program Resources Group (PRG), Major Market Group, National Educational Telecommunications Association (NETA), Organization of State Broadcasting Executive (OSBE), the Small Station Association (SSA) and University Licensee Association (ULA) aligning station, national and system planning for general managers and stations. AGC exists to provide reliable, productive communications between and among its coalition members.

APM

American Public Media was founded in 1994 to produce and distribute the public radio programs of Minnesota Public Radio (MPR) and Southern California Public Radio (SCRP). Productions include Market Place, A Prairie Home Companion, and Composer Datebook. Today, APM produces more than 20 public radio programs.

APT

APTS

The Association of Public Television Stations is a nonprofit membership organization established in 1980 to support the continued growth and development of a strong and financially sound noncommercial television service for the American public. APTS provides advocacy for public television interests at the national level, as well as consistent leadership and information in marshaling grassroots and congressional support for its members, the nation's public television stations.

CAAM

Center for Asian American Media was founded in 1980 by Asian American producers and community activists to counter the scarcity of images of Asians in film and television, correct distorted portrayals in the mainstream media, and create opportunities for Asian American producers in the public media. Once an association of groups around the country, the Center for Asian American Media is now a nationally recognized arts and cultural institution based in San Francisco, California. The Center for Asian American Media's mission is to present stories that convey the richness and diversity of the Asian American experience to the broadest audience. They fund, produce, distribute and exhibit Asian American films, videos and new media.

CPB

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting, a private nonprofit corporation created by Congress in 1967, is a leader in public broadcasting's digital, educational and programming services for the American people. The corporation is public broadcasting's largest single source of funds for analog and digital program development and production. CPB also partially funds more than 1,000 local public radio and television stations across the country.

DEI

Development Exchange Inc. is a membership organization that provides fundraising and marketing services to public radio stations. DEI advisors provide assistance in corporate support, membership solicitations, on-air pledge drives, new media, major giving, foundation and government support, and management.

ITVS

Founded in 1990, the Independent Television Service brings independently produced programs to television; programs that engage creative risks, advance issues, and represent points of view not usually seen on commercial or public television. ITVS is committed to programming that addresses the needs of under-served audiences, particularly minorities and children. ITVS seeks to create and promote independent media that will expand civic participation by bringing new voices and expressiveness into the public discourse. Each year ITVS funds, distributes and promotes new programs produced by independent producers primarily for public television and beyond.

IMA

Integrated Media Association's primary mission is to "harness the power of the Internet and other new media platforms for the benefit of public broadcaster." IMA was founded in 1997 as PRISA (Public Radio Internet Station Alliance). In a 2002 reorganization, the name was changed to IMA to reflect its new reach into public television. Today, the IMA Board includes PBS, NPR and PRI representatives. IMA continues to develop industry tools and collaborations to assist managers of new media operations.

LPBP

The Latino Public Broadcasting Project promotes greater participation of Latino producers, directors, writers and on-air talent in public television programs, stimulates the creation of content that reflects the Latino experience in the United States, and hosts workshops for Latino producers in the digital technologies that are revolutionizing the creative industry.

NAPT

The Native American Public Telecommunications mission is to inform, educate and encourage the awareness of tribal histories, cultures, and opportunities through participation of American Indians and Alaska Natives in creating all forms of educational and public telecommunications programs and services. NCO

NBPC

The National Black Programming Consortium is a non-profit media service organization devoted to the preservation, production, distribution and promotion of diverse films and videos about African Americans and African Diaspora experiences. Founded in 1979, NBPC is one of five ethnic consortia funded by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. NBPC aims to increase the quantity and quality of Black films and videos on the PBS national schedule.

NPR

National Public Radio is a privately supported, not-for-profit membership organization that produces and distributes news, talk and entertainment programming. NPR was created in 1970. PIC

Pacific Islanders in Communications is a national nonprofit media organization established for the purpose of increasing national public broadcast programming by and about indigenous Pacific Islanders. P.O.V.

P.O.V. is pubic television's award-winning showcase for independent non-fiction films. P.O.V. films –– regardless of their subjects –– are ultimately personal and unvarnished reportage on our lives. Public Radio International is an independent, not-for-profit corporation that distributes innovative public radio programming. Founded in 1983 as American Public Radio the name was changed to Public Radio International in 1994 to reflect the global perspective of the programming. SRG

Station Resource Group is an alliance of 45 public radio broadcasters. SRG works with station managers and industry leaders to create strategic, long-term planning and collaborative projects that strengthen individual stations and the national system.
